A large online retailer's large warehouse receives large volumes of goods from various suppliers on a daily basis, with numerous staff members repeatedly entering and leaving the warehouse. To prevent theft, security guards used to conduct visual inspections and inspections using hand-held metal detectors, but long lines of security guards formed during break and exit times, and staff in the back of the warehouse had to wait up to 30 minutes before starting their break or leaving the warehouse.
In addition, increasing the number of security guards to meet the congested hours increased running costs and placed a heavy burden on the company.
In response, the company introduced our "Anti-theft Profiling System Metal Detectors. The new system has improved inspection accuracy while realizing speedy and efficient operations.
At first, the only solution to speedy processing of large staff inspections was to increase the number of security guards, so a large number of guards were assigned to prevent theft, and inspections were conducted visually and with handheld metal detectors. However, staff concentrated at certain times of the day, such as during breaks and when leaving the office, causing long lines to form at the inspection area. Staff in the back of the line had to wait up to 30 minutes before starting their break or leaving the office, which had a significant impact on productivity and work comfort.
In addition, hiring additional security guards for busy times wasted labor costs during non-crowded hours, and increased costs due to overtime pay and extended breaks. In addition, the accuracy of human inspections varied, and the risk of missed inspections was also an issue.
These three problems of long waiting times, increased costs, and inaccurate inspections were becoming a major concern.
Before introducing the system, we installed the model under consideration at the actual warehouse site and repeated field simulations and test operations. As a result of comparing the inspection speed and accuracy of our metal detector with the conventional inspection by security guards, it was clear that the device demonstrated more stable, higher accuracy and speed. In addition, the profiling function, which can detect the "difference" in the amount of metal between entering and exiting a room, was highly evaluated, and the decision to introduce the equipment was based on the belief that it would allow for a cost-effective, no-overlook inspection.
By installing multiple metal detectors on each floor, the waiting time for inspection, which used to take up to 30 minutes, has been reduced to approximately 5 minutes even during peak hours. With the equipment taking care of primary screening, security guards only need to check staff who have reacted, and the number of security guards assigned has been reduced to less than half. Over the long term, running costs have been significantly reduced.
In addition, the equipment is highly accurate, reducing the risk of missing something. Staff passage logs are automatically recorded, making it possible to use the system for work management and flow line monitoring.
In addition, the reduction of human inspections has reduced the psychological stress of the staff being inspected and greatly reduced the workload of the security guards conducting the inspections. The entire site now runs smoothly, creating a "win-win" environment that benefits staff, security guards, and the company.
Profiling function detects the difference in the amount of metal between entering and exiting a room, ensuring high-precision inspections without missing anything !
High speed primary screening and efficient secondary inspection of only those staff members who reacted to the metal detector !
Automatic recording of staff passing through the system allows visualization of information such as time stamps, break times, and floor stay status !
♦ Minimize the burden on staff with smooth operation that only requires them to hold up their employee ID card to pass through the system!
In this case study, the introduction of profiling-type metal detectors has resulted in improvements in many areas, including a significant reduction in inspection waiting time, cost optimization through a reduction in the number of security guards, improved inspection accuracy, and reduced stress for both staff and security guards.
This system is an extremely effective solution for companies that are faced with the challenges of efficiently inspecting large numbers of staff and maintaining a high level of security while keeping costs down.
The system continues to operate stably and will continue to contribute to further improvement of operational efficiency and safe and secure warehouse operations.
