Business Overview
Social implementation of Nannochloropsis that solves many social problems
In 2018, we established the Eavis Algae Industry Laboratory in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, taking over the business from Smeve Japan, Inc,
We have begun outdoor large-scale cultivation of the microalgae Nannochloropsis.
Nannochloropsis is not a well-known name,
This marine microalgae has the potential to solve social problems such as climate change, global warming, food problems, and the protein crisis.
The Eavis Algae Industry Research Center is developing technology to produce Nannochloropsis in large quantities at low cost,
We are working on the social implementation of nannochloropsis by utilizing the business network of EBIS.
Our Strengths
Eavis Algae Industry Research Institute is the first in Japan to
stable supply of Nannochloropsis (three stable supplies).
-
Stable quantity
We meet demand by cultivating on a large scale in the largest facility in Japan. EBIS grows Nannochloropsis in seven raceway-type culture tanks (total culture tank area: approximately 2,400 m2) on a total site area of approximately 1 hectare.
Year-round stability
Nannochloropsis is sensitive to heat, but we have established a technology to cultivate it efficiently even during the summer season, enabling us to supply it throughout the year.
Stable quality
We maintain high quality by managing our products at the level of human consumption (food level).
Nannochloropsis' ability to solve social problems

POINT 01
Contributing to climate change action by reducing greenhouse gas emissions
Contribute to climate change action by reducing greenhouse gas emissionsNannochloropsis is an autotrophic organism that grows by photosynthesis, synthesizing a variety of organic matter from carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and phosphorus and generating oxygen. Approximately twice as much carbon dioxide (1.82 kg) is consumed (carbon dioxide is absorbed) to produce 1 kg of algae.
-
POINT 02
Nannochloropsis protects the abundance of land
- Nannochloropsis can be grown on any land as long as a culture tank with water is available. Deserts, wastelands, coastal areas, and ocean areas, which could not be used for agriculture in the past, can all be used for cultivation. By using land that has not been available for agriculture in the past, it is possible to develop the cultivation process in a manner that is separate from existing agricultural production.
- Nannochloropsis is a marine microalgae, so it can be cultivated without using freshwater resources.
-
POINT 03
Nannochloropsis protects the abundance of the sea.
Consumption of fish and shellfish is increasing worldwide due to health consciousness. On the other hand, overfishing and climate change are causing concern about the depletion of marine resources, and the fisheries industry is shifting from catching to making fish. In order to expand the aquaculture business, it is necessary to strengthen the production system for fry. In addition, the development of environmentally friendly fishmeal-free feeds will be promoted. Nannochloropsis is necessary for the production of fry because of its effectiveness in improving survival rates and reducing the occurrence of deformities. The use of algae such as Nannochloropsis as a nutrient-enhancing ingredient in fish meal-free diets is also being researched.
-
POINT 04
Creating a food culture of Nannochloropsis to help people maintain and promote good health.
- Nannochloropsis is a Whole Foods product that contains 61 different nutrients and has an amino acid score of 100. Among them, the content of omega-3 EPA (about 5%) and palmitoleic acid (about 3%) is extremely high compared to other microalgae such as chlorella, spirulina, and euglena.
- EPA is a nutrient that has attracted attention because of the very low incidence of thrombosis and heart disease among the Inuit, whose regular diet consists of fish and sea animals, despite their high fat intake. It thins the blood, improves circulation, and improves hyperlipidemia.
- Palmitoleic acid is one of the few fatty acids that can enter blood vessels in the brain, making cerebral blood vessels stronger and preventing strokes. It is also said to prevent skin aging due to its ability to enhance the skin barrier function.
